Background and objective: personality is an abstract concept that determines the special and unique behavior of individuals towards the environmental compatibility. Based on their personality patterns individuals have needs, expectations, motivations, and specific goals. Meanwhile, every organization satisfies certain needs and expectations according to its goals and activities and for this reason the more compatibility and suitability exists between personality and the job, the person would be more satisfied. Accordingly, this study aimed to assess and predict the impact of job characteristics on employees’ well-being and happiness in Sea Guard in Bandar Torkaman city in 2012-2013.
Method: the present study is of a descriptive research type which was conducted in a survey method among the statistical population of Sea Guard employees in Bandar Turkaman and a sample size of 200 people were selected. The instruments of this study were Big-Five NEO personality traits questionnaire, Reef Mental Welfare (1989), Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI), and a researcher-made demography. The data were analyzed using correlation and regression modeling.
Findings and results: the findings showed that the personality traits are the predictors of employees’ happiness. In addition to this predicting mental welfare was the happiness of the employees. According to another finding, the personality traits are the predictors of mental welfare of the employees.
